Book Printing: Where are we? (POLL!)
over 6 years ago – Tue, Nov 21, 2017 at 11:03:52 PM

I generally try to order proofs in groups. There are three ways to ship from DTRP: Media (3 weeks), expedited (<1 week), or overnight. I usually upgrade the shipping to expedited when I place a proof so that the books will get here quickly. I am ever the optimist, thinking I can get these books to you in a timely manner.

So, when the hardcover is "submitted to the printer," meaning it can be a couple of days, and the black and white is "waiting for an updated file," I have to decide whether to wait for an updated file before printing a proof. It costs about $25 to expedite the shipping, but it costs $25 to order one book or two when expedited, so splitting the order is less cost effective.

Meanwhile, in color softcover land, I have to decide if the back cover art bleed is worth worrying about:

You probably don't care, and you just want your book. Perfect is the enemy of done, after all. I can put the bulk order in NOW and your replacement books will look like this.

So, quick spot poll (particularly for those who have sent in your bulk replacement requests): Do you care enough for me to delay the color softcover replacement order by another 2 weeks (about a week to get files approved and the proof ordered)?

Proofs are in!
over 6 years ago – Thu, Nov 02, 2017 at 06:24:16 PM

The Good News

At first glance, the color softcovers look okay. There's a bit of a margin thing going on, but I think you'll still be able to read them. I'll be going through the proof this weekend to make sure I'm confident that it's viable.

That means you have until MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6 to send me your defective book photos! I'll be sending the bulk replacement request next Wednesday, November 8.

The Bad News

The hardcover proof looks like this:

Noooooo!!!!

As everyone keeps reminding me, this is why we have proofs, right?

Bill (layout) will take a look at the files over the weekend and we'll go through another round of proofs and hope that THIS TIME it will work.

PAX Unplugged

If you're going to PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia November  17-19, you may spot Threadbare books in the wild at the IGDN booth!

Do stop by and give the folks at IGDN some love-- they're a great team and a good support network. They're not the ones to yell at if you're frustrated that you don't have your books yet, though-- that's squarely on me. But they are a great bunch of people selling some really awesome indie books.

Proof Copies on Order!
over 6 years ago – Fri, Oct 27, 2017 at 07:53:51 PM

The Proof copies have been ordered! They usually take about a week, so!

If you have a color softcover book

Please email me (email address is in the many backer-only posts; those on BackerKit can contact me through the Backerkit support) with a photo of your trimmed page numbers, and your order number if you have it available. Please send me this information no later than Monday, November 6.

If you already sent your photo: do nothing. I will email you that weekend to confirm that I have it, and will post here again so you know to check your email. Over 50 backers sent in their photos, so there's quite a bit to process. (Out of 177, I feel that's a pretty good rate). Remember: replacing your book costs you nothing, and it costs me nothing.

On November 6, I'll put together the list of replacement book for Drivethru to hand. After November 6, I will ask that you contact DriveThruRPG directly to get your replacement books.

If you have moved

I locked down addresses a while back, so if you have moved, please contact me through the Kickstarter message system or Backerkit support so I can update your mailing address.

How is the Plan Going

  • Get clean proofs of the hardcovers and a new clean proof of the softcovers. - Ordered!
  • Send the bulk replacement request to DriveThruRPG. - See above-- send me your information this week, please!
  • Order the hardcovers. - Waiting on the proofs.
  • Rinse and repeat with the black and white softcover books. - Waiting on the proofs.
  • Order the autographed copies to get them here and get them signed and mailed out to you. - Waiting on the proofs.

A Bit of Joy

I ran Threadbare at Gauntlet Con last weekend, and they've posted the video of the actual play!

If you're looking for an actual play video, here's a great example of the adventure Flight of the Bumblebee from the back of the book!

Errata: Help Someone
over 6 years ago – Wed, Oct 25, 2017 at 01:25:49 AM

You should have received an email from Backerkit and DriveThruRPG telling you the PDFs have been updated.

I had a minor errata in the game that I've fixed in the PDFs, which is detailed here. Basically, I had 2 effects that were stacking in a way I wasn't comfortable with, when socks helped other socks with the Help Someone basic move.

That's fixed in the errata, and if you want to make a note in your book, just line-out the part that says "(+2 for Socks helping Socks)" in the basic move. Socks only give a +1 to other socks, but they also let the recipient sock roll 3d6 and take the best 2 dice.

I hope that helps clarify the game a little. The updated file was also uploaded to DriveThruRPG for printing, and once it gets approved by the printer, we'll be ready to print those proof copies and start doing replacement books!
